Book Review; Cut: by Patricia McCormick

Hello all, today is Thanksgiving! So today is the perfect day to give thanks to all those awesome books that help you pass the time! Thanks books! Your my best friend!!! Anyway, I'm attempting to take a break from all those pesky preparations so I thought I would duck out of sight (best way to avoid helping out!) and review my first book.

The book is Cut by Patricia McCormick, it was published by PUSH which is one of my all time favorites just because they try to publish unknown authors, teens and just plain raw talent. They are always accepting new work and having contests so if your an aspiring writer you should check it out! The website is www.thisispush.com. On to the review! (Image of the front cover)

This book is about a girl named Callie, she is sent to a recovery center called Sea Pines (or Sick Minds, according to Callie's roommate) due to the fact that she cuts herself. Most of the book is just in Callie's mind, when she first goes to Sea Pines she doesn't talk at all, she just sits there and tries to be invisible. I can't really say too much more without giving away some shocking moments in the story, so I'll move on to my opinions. I really love this book, It's been one of my favorites since High School, the writing is really great and unique. It's witty but also lasting, I love the bit Callie has about her therapists dead cow chair that is spread out through the entire book, the first line about the chair starts on the very first page! and oh look, here it is: "You lean forward, place a box of tissues in front of me, and your black leather chair groans like a living thing. Like the cow it used to be before someone killed it and turned it into a chair in a shrink's office in a loony bin."  The writing is so REAL, and pretty much amazing. Also, the book is really short so you can read it in a lazy afternoon. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in psychology or mental hospitals (like me!).

I give this book 4 bats! Although I love the shortness, I would have loved to have a bit more back story.

Thanks for reading! :D

Just a small update

I know, I know "Go to bed, you crazy kid!", I can't help myself!

I just want to update you guys on my rating system. I will rate books on a scale of 1 to 5, and instead of anything lame like stars or numbers I'm going to use little bats! Because that's not lame at all.

Example, I give Twilight ZERO out of 5 bats. Wait...I said 1 to 5 didn't I....I guess when a book is TRULY terrible (which most aren't, I just have a "soft" spot for Twilight) it can get zero bats.

                                                                                                                                                                    Hey look, there they are!

Glad that's all cleared up.

Welcome Nerds!

Hello everyone!

Wow, first post ever.

epic.

Anyway, I just want to say hey to everyone who may or may not be reading these lovely postings. You may be asking your self, Why? Why would a "sane" person, such as myself, be starting this ultimately time consuming project right in the middle of college, work, friends, family, a nagging mother (I'm SORRY!), a dog, trying to learn another language (that's a different battle in itself!), staying on top of their health and other issues, want to make such a random blog??

Well, I really don't have an answer. I just thought it might be fun.

But on the the actual explaining of this little blog-di-doo. Basically I love to read, I always have a different book and am constantly giving suggestions to friends and family. So I thought I would take this show on the road, metaphorically speaking, and  write some reviews and thoughts about the books I have read/am reading.

So if you are the type of person who loves to cozy up next to the fire with a good book, then you should take out an ad in the personal section of the newspaper. But if your the type of person who absolutely LOVES to read...

Well, then, welcome.
